How do I open a Beacon Money Account?

To open an account, you need to provide documents for:

  1. Proof of Address

  2. Identity Verification

  3. Canadian Visa Status (for non-Canadian citizens or non-PR holders)

  4. Tax ID (for non-Canadian tax residents)


What documents do I need to provide?

For Canadian Citizens:

  • Proof of Address:

    • Driver's license, or

    • Any accepted address document (see the list below).

  • Identity Verification:

    • Driver's license, or

    • Passport

For Canadian PR Holders:

  • Proof of Address:

    • Canadian driver's license, or

    • Any accepted address document (see the list below).

  • Identity Verification:

    • Canadian driver's license, or

    • Passport from the country of origin, or

    • PR Card

  • Canadian Visa Status:

    • If you are using a non-Canadian passport for identity verification, you need to provide your PR Card or the Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR).

For Non-Canadian Citizens/Non-PR Holders:

  • Proof of Address:

    • Canadian driver’s license, or

    • Any accepted address document (see the list below).

  • Identity Verification:

    • Passport from the country of origin, or

    • Canadian driver's license.

  • Canadian Visa Status:

    • Study permit/student visa,

    • Work permit,

    • Tourist visa, or

    • Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR).

  • Tax Residency (only required if you are not a tax resident of Canada):

    • Taxpayer ID number from the country where you are a tax resident


What documents are accepted for proof of address?

We accept the following documents, valid within the last 24 months:

  • Identity documents with address.

  • Bank statements.

  • Bank letters.

  • Mortgage payment or passbook.

  • Home phone, internet, or TV bills.

  • Water, electricity, or gas bills.

  • Other utility provider bills.

  • Letters or notifications from government agencies.

  • Certificate of voter registration.

  • Tax assessments.

  • Temporary registration sheets/affidavits/vehicle registration certificates.

  • Mobile communication statements and bills.

  • Rent bills from real estate agencies.

  • Documents from employers confirming the address or home purchase deeds.
