Interac e-Transfer is a fast and convenient way to receive money from a Canadian bank.
In most cases, transfers arrive within minutes, and sometimes even within seconds.
However, the exact timing may vary depending on:
The sender’s financial institution
The sender’s internet or mobile connection
Security checks performed by the sending bank
In some situations, the sending bank may temporarily review the transaction. If this happens, the transfer may take up to 60 minutes to reach your Canadian money account.
If the sender sees that the transfer has been sent but it has not yet arrived, we recommend waiting up to 60 minutes before taking further action.
Why This Happens
Occasionally, banks perform additional checks before releasing a transfer. This may happen when:
It is the first time you are receiving money from that sender
The transfer amount is higher than usual
The bank performs a routine security verification
In many cases, banks may take 30–40 minutes to release the funds.
Even if the sender’s bank shows the transfer as “Sent,” the funds may still be temporarily held while the bank completes its review.
There are no manual delays or holds on Beacon’s side. Once the sending bank releases the funds, the money is automatically deposited into your Beacon Money account.
In most cases, the transfer is completed shortly after the bank finishes processing.
What to Do If Your Transfer Is Taking Longer
Wait at least 45–60 minutes after the sender has initiated the Interac e-Transfer or after completing a Request for Money from the Beacon app.
If the funds still haven’t arrived:
Ask the sender to contact their bank’s customer support and request that the transfer be released.
They can say:
“I sent an Interac e-Transfer to a Beacon Money account, but it hasn’t been received yet. Could you please check the transfer status and release the funds if they are being held?”
Once the bank releases the transfer, the funds will appear in your Beacon Money account automatically.
No additional action is required in the Beacon app.
