Who can I send money to? What happens if I send a UPI transfer to the wrong person?

Updated this week

You can send money to almost anyone with a valid UPI ID or Bank Account details. Just make sure to select the appropriate purpose for the transfer (e.g., family support, education, etc.). Some transfers may be prohibited under legal regulations or by recipient banks (for example, if the recipient’s bank or NPCI has placed restrictions on the account) - in such case, the transfers will be rejected.

Before confirming a transfer, the full name registered to the UPI ID will be displayed for verification.

UPI transactions are processed instantly and are generally irreversible once completed. If funds are sent to an unintended recipient, reversal is not guaranteed and is subject to the policies and discretion of the recipient’s bank and/or NPCI.

In certain cases, a recall request may be initiated; however, this may involve additional charges and recovery is not assured.
